Everything in creation was placed here for a purpose and all things have energy and spirit, including minerals and stones.  Some are obvious -- magnetic stones attract  things with iron elements, uranium stores immense energy that can be used to generate constructive or destructive energy. Other stones have less obvious energies, but may have powerful effects on mind and body

Healers over the centuries noticed that certain stones tended to have physical and spiritual effects on those using or wearing them, and began finding ways to use use to ease symptoms and even correct or enhance organic and mental energies.

Some of the familiar, and beautiful stones that many seek for jewelry have other qualities that may be even more important than simply enhancing the outfit of the day. Many healers who use these stones will tell you (as aromatherapists say about healing scents) that people are attracted to the stone that they need.  So if you are drawn to a particular stone, it is likely that it meets a need that you have, and it may benefit you to keep these stones near you, preferably touching your skin.

These include:

Amethyst-This lovely purple stone is known as a master healing stone used for dream recall, avoiding nightmares, meditation, stress relief and increased contentment.  It is used to combat addictions, anger and pain, and to help focus on goals.

Garnet - A beautiful deep red stone, garnet benefits creativity and passion,  Its warming effects may help arthritis, paralyis, exhaustion, and low blood pressure.

Sodalite - A pretty blue and white stone, sodalite encourages balance and enhances communication and understanding. Healers use it to draw infections, treat burns, sinus inflammation and high blood pressure. 

Lapis Lazuli - Lapis is a much sought-after deep blue stone that mday benefit conditions of anxiety, restlessness, insomnia and other nervous disorders. Also benefits the respiratory system.

Hematite - One of the most familiar stones for healing, and a lovely, soft deep gray that enhances any color and fits almost any occasion.  Hematite is a grounding stone associated with mental clarity, enhanced survival instincts, and centering. It increases confidence, will power, concentration, and memory. Also a protective stone that deflects negativity. Health benefits include supporting body cleansing functions and tissue regeneration. Benefits fluid functions. Hematite can be magnetized, and many people believe that the magnetic stones have enhanced properties. 

Quartz is known as the "master healer" and is probably the best-known stone for its energy. It is the most versatile of the healing stones.  It amplifies energy and healing. Restores harmony drawing and sending energy. Stimulates positive thought.  There are different colors of quartz, each with their own variations in strength or primary effect.  

Mahogany jasper.  A rich deep red- brown stone with black markings, mahogany is stability stone, that combats the effects of pollution. It extracts pollutants and toxins and boosts the immune system.

Malachite - A beautiful deep green with blue overtones, malachite strengthens heart and solar plexus centers: It has been used to treat disorders of the stomach, liver, kidney stones, lungs, and immune system, including radiation damage, MS, and circulatory problems.  It releases and draws out pain, inflammation, depression, anger, and  heals blocks.
